The Mallow Shroud

One-of-a-Kind Beauty, Grown by Nature This burial shroud was coloured using black malva flowers — a traditional botanical dye plant known for producing soft, warm tones ranging from sand and stone to gentle mauve. The fabric was slowly tie-dyed and immersed in a natural dye bath, allowing the plant pigments to settle organically into the fibres. The result is a calm, grounded palette that feels both natural and comforting. For many families, choosing a natural shroud is an act of care — a way to return gently to the earth wrapped in materials that honour the body and the land. Each piece is prepared and dyed by hand, and no two will ever be exactly the same. Plants Used in This Shroud This shroud was dyed using: Black malva ( Malva sylvestris ) — a flowering plant traditionally used in botanical dyeing to create warm, earthy tones with subtle lavender undertones Natural plant tannins to help the fibres receive and hold the colour Black malva produces colours that feel soft, natural, and quietly expressive — tones that often resonate with families seeking something gentle and grounded. The Botanical Dyeing Process The fabric was tie-dyed and slowly immersed in a dye bath made from black malva flowers. Because natural dyes respond to water, fibre, and temperature, the final colour develops gradually over time — never forced, never identical. No synthetic dyes are used. No chemical finishes are applied. The fabric remains fully biodegradable. This slow process honours traditiona Sold on Sanctum Shrouds (https://gozliving.com/products/the-mallow-shroud).
