Australian Kaolin Clay

The gentle clay base behind every Eliézer Clay mask. Mined and processed at Wickepin in Western Australia from a primary kaolin deposit, this soft, earthy clay helps remove excess oil and dead skin cells, and leaves skin feeling soft and clean. Just add water. New to clay masks? Start with a Mindfulness Mask Bundle . The bundles include this same clay plus the powders, mixing tools and brush you need to actually make a mask. This jar on its own is best as a refill once you have the rest. Why kaolin, and not bentonite Kaolin is the gentlest of the cosmetic clays. Bentonite swells in water, is strongly alkaline at pH 8 to 10, and absorbs far more oil, which suits genuinely oily skin but often leaves everyone else feeling tight. Our kaolin tests at pH 6.8, close to skin's own 5.5. It has a fine, platy particle structure and absorbs slowly. That is why it suits dry, sensitive and redness-prone skin that reacts badly to harsher masks, and why it can be used two to three times a week rather than once. Why a primary deposit matters Kaolin comes from two kinds of deposit. Primary kaolin stays where it formed. Secondary kaolin has been washed downstream and redeposited, collecting organic material on the way. Ours is primary. It comes out of the ground clean rather than needing to be cleaned up to get there.
