Sunflower, Oxeye (Potted)

Oxeye sunflower brings vibrant height and color to landscapes, offering extended bloom times that bridge the gap between early summer and autumn. This native perennial is offered as potted stock grown in root-prune pouches, allowing for planting flexibility throughout the growing season. The root system developed in these pouches supports successful establishment when moved to a permanent site. Heliopsis helianthoides , also known as false sunflower, is a resilient species valued for its ecological contributions. The plant produces abundant yellow flowers that provide a reliable nectar source for pollinators over a long season. Its foliage serves a specific ecological role as a larval host for the silvery checkerspot butterfly, adding biodiversity value to native plantings. This species is well-suited for meadow restoration projects or as a structural backdrop in perennial garden beds. It thrives in full sun and adapts to a range of soil moisture levels, from dry to moist conditions. Reaching mature heights of 3 to 6 feet with a spread of roughly 3 feet, oxeye sunflower requires ample space to develop its full stature. Choosing potted stock ensures that this wildflower is ready for immediate installation in a well-prepared site. With proper care during the first season, it establishes readily to provide years of ornamental beauty and habitat support.
