Calopogonium mucunoides (CM) Cover Crop Seeds

Calopogonium mucunoides (CM) is a fast-establishing, short-lived legume cover crop for rubber, coconut and oil palm. It covers the soil 3 to 6 months after sowing (PROSEA 11), fixes nitrogen and is used as green manure. Chemiseed Sdn. Bhd. supplies CM seed, germination- and purity-tested to ISTA and AOSA methods, to buyers worldwide on request, from Malaysia. PLANT CHARACTER Trailing, short-lived legume with creeping and twining growth. Establishes quickly in the open and produces dense ground cover in young plantings; in legume mixtures it is the first to establish and the first to be shaded out as the canopy closes (PROSEA 11). Adapts well to a range of tropical soil conditions. USES Nitrogen fixation, erosion control, soil cover, green manure, and weed suppression. Established as a basin legume in coconut systems, Calopogonium mucunoides was reported to contribute 27.21 kg of fresh biomass and 186.5 g of shoot nitrogen per basin , with tops harvested 120 days after sowing in laterite soil in Kerala, India (Thomas & Shantaram, 1993). We do not publish a fertiliser-replacement percentage for any cover crop: what a legume cover contributes to your nutrient budget depends on biomass, site and management, and should be checked against your own soil and leaf analysis rather than assumed as a fixed credit. No verified species-specific nitrogen figure is published for CM. For optimal germination, consider using Seed Activator during planting.
