Please don’t buy on-line. Contact us privately to start the discussion. Interested in starting your own flock? We offer starter flocks of merino lamb ewes. If you're thinking about jumping into fiber production, we recommend the Merino breed, as there is a strong market for your fiber and the sale of the fiber easily feeds the livestock. Our stock is from Missouri and Australia and will compliment the local Midwestern Merinos which more-than-likely trace their genetics back to the Green Field Village stock.
We have starter packages which include four open, young merino ewes ($1,000 each) with a micron count between 19-22 and a weanling merino stud ($850) for $4,850. A stud purchased without the weanling ewes is $1,000.
This is a package of young (between 8 weeks to 5 months) animals. The positive side is that you have a chance to bond with and train the flock to your liking. However, even if you keep the stud with the flock, we don’t guarantee that they will take to the stud until they are 2.5 years - that’s the second breeding season. It’s been my experience, Merino rams are slow to mature as well. They will be ready at 2.5 years old.
Additionally, flock sales come with free mandatory consultation. You will visit the farm (we can use a video feed) to help make your decision and also see the daily operation of maintaining a flock. As with our farm tours, we charge $50 for a 1.5 hour
